Fillers And Injectables – An Insider’s Guide

By: Dr. Stephen Chu, Medical Director and Founder of The Aesthetics Firm.

What are the different types of facial contouring injectables in the market today? Well firstly there are many brands. But don’t get confuse between brand and category. Once you understand this it’s quite easy to know what suits you best for what you are looking for.

So aside from neurotoxins like botox, there are a few different types of injectables for the face for facial contouring.

HA (Hyaluronic Acid)  Fillers:

These can be divided between skin boosters or fillers for volume. Usually the difference being the concentration of HA in the filler itself given in a particular volume. Skin boosters mainly hydrate the skin and does not give contouring or volumizing effects per se. People with dry skin, dry lips will find skinboosters to be particularly beneficial.

For the non skinbooster HA fillers. They come in varying concentrations depending on the area of face which we would like to contour, increase volume, or fix depressions. The range from light , medium, and deep (each brand has their own different naming system). Depending on the area of face your doctor would choose the appropriate type of filler to be used. Some example of brands would be Juvederm, Teosyal , Restylane, and Beletero. There are many in the market of this type of filler, however going for a reputable one is strongly advised.

Rejuran:

Rejuran deserves its own special category as its not a filler at all. It contains PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) harvested from Salmon DNA. These polynucleotide repair damaged skin cells and stimulate collagen production. From Korea, Rejuran has 3 different sub-types suited for different needs.
Rejuran-I for under eye injections that aid in fine lines and skin laxity.
Rejuran-S for injection under scars whether old acne scars or hypertrophic scars.
Rejuran Healer for whole face injection that come in 2cc syringe.

Profhilo:

However, for scars of various types (boxscar, icepick, rolling, atrophic, hypertrophic) the collagen fibres form an alignment in a single direction and tether the skin down making the depression and thicken scar. With the use of ablative lasers, we can “loosen” and destroy some of these fibres relaxing the depression and thickness of the scar.

This product also deserves it own special category. Profhilo is the first BDDE-free, highest concentration injectable hyaluronic acid for hydrating skin and treating skin laxity. Profhilo consists of 2 types of hyaluronic acid: L-HA and H-HA. This combination of HA allows hyaluronic acid to be released slowly with longer lasting effects thus allowing bio remodeling to take place.
L-HA as a hybrid complex that is released slowly and hydrates your skin.
H-HA provides a stable HA architecture in the dermis that allows volume effects thus giving a mini face lift effect.
By injecting 5 different points on each side of the face, Profhilo is able to gently achieve a subtle face lift after 2 sessions. A game-changer product for the aesthetic industry.

Below is a chart summarizing the different types of facial contouring injectables excluding neurotoxins.
Hopefully this will provide a clearer understanding.
